Success Here and Now:“The facts are that arts education makes a tremendous impact on the development growth of every child and has proven to help level the “learning field” across socioeconomic boundaries. It has measurable impact on youth at risk in deterring delinquent behavior and truancy problems while also increasing overall academic performance among youth engaged in after-school and summer arts programs."- UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences 1998, James Catterall 96% of students with only a 30% chance to graduate from high school are promoted yearly to the next grade. We know that in the coming years we will see this translate into increased high school graduation and decreased costs to our society in the areas of crime, poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, teen pregnancy and health care. Research shows that young people who participate in the arts for at least 9 hours per week are: OUR GOALS:The goals of the Milagro Center programs include: (1) increased academic success of enrolled children (2) increased awareness of the arts through intensive art instruction taught by professionally trained artists; and, (3) increased self esteem and self-worth through Living Values education. Specific objectives to be achieved during 1 year of of participation include the following: • 80% of our students will demonstrate improved or maintained grades. |
